I would implement the clip chart by first explaining to my students how it works. Then, I would allow them to each write their name on the clothespins. After putting it up in the classroom I would use it daily. From top to bottom, the chart reads Outstanding, Great Job, Good Day, Ready to Learn, Think About It, Teacher's Choice, and Parent Contact. At the beginning of the day, each student will start off at Ready to Learn. If they are behaving well, they will move up and if they behave poorly, they will move down. I like this particular behavior management plan because it does not solely focus on the identification of negative behavior. This may occur with behavior management plans such as the pocket chart. Another thing I like is that the names start off pinned in the middle of the chart. This prevents students from coming in the room with false accomplishments. How can they be outstanding if they just got there? Starting off in the middle gives them room for improvement, as well as to move down if they misbehave. When used in my classroom, I will allow the students to move his or her clip if they are clipping up. But if clipping down I will most likely consult with them in private and tell them the reason they are clipping down and move their clothespin myself.
